December Make Along: Interview with Talia @taliacrochetcreations

All the links in this post will go directly to the content of the person I am interviewing! Please explore their content and follow along through their various sites, shops, and emails for more amazing patterns and more!

If you click any of the photos it will take you directly to that pattern or product!

When did you start crocheting, and why?

“I began crocheting in 2014 during college for anxiety and stress relief.”

What are your favorite items to create and why?

My favorite items to create are sweaters because ‘swedda wedda’ is the best ‘wedda’!

She is not wrong…

Tell us about a design you are particularly proud of, and what sets it apart from the crowd?

The Winterberry Sweater is one sweater I am most proud of. It was the design that became the deciding factor for me – that I want to do this!”

Will you show us your contribution to the December MAL?

Tell us a few features of this design and what you love about it?

What I love about the For the Love of Bobbles Wrap, is that it features bobbles! Even though it’s a lacy design, I paired it with WeCrochet Gloss DK and the warmth is exceptional. I love all my designs, but this one is a favorite!

(This is a truly brilliant design!!! So much texture and such a unique use of both techniques! Click the green line above to buy the beautifully formated PDF of this pattern!)

Do you make other things besides yarn art? What are your hobbies or other products in your business?

I don’t make other things outside of crochet however, I love doing photography-it was my baby before crochet-and I write poetry from time to time.”

Tell me something that you wish more people understood?

I’m so happy to have met many friends on social media, however, being on social media overwhelms me at times. I am a very private and introverted person. Those two things do not go hand in hand with having an online-based small business. I wish people would grasp that concept more and give a little grace at times.

(I love this thought! It’s so important to have boundaries around our energy! Social media makes it seem like we should be available at all times. I think it’s so important to keep business hours, and not expect others to be on all the time!)

Will you show us a few of the things you have designed or made?

Go follow Talia on IG, but respect her time! And then buy some of her patterns!!!
Talia is one of my personal favorite designers! Her sweaters are AMAZING to make!!!

Do you have a favorite Talia Crochet Creation?!?

If you click any of the photos it will take you directly to that pattern or product!

When did you start crocheting, and why?

I learned to crochet as a young girl from my Grandma. And then later as an adult, I started Crocheting enjoying the creative outlet it provides, I have been crocheting so long it has become a part of me.”

What are your favorite items to create and why?

“I really enjoy making accessories of all sorts; cowls, hats, and jewelry. I like taking a skein of really gorgeous yarn and turning it into something beautiful!”

Tell us about a design you are particularly proud of, and what sets it apart from the crowd?

I am particularly proud of Layers of Lace featured in Crochet World Magazine. It is a beautiful piece that combines different types of lace into one gorgeous doily.

Will you show us your contribution to the December MAL?

Tell us a few features of this design and what you love about it?

I really love how you can create a pattern that provides options! This hat can be made from the top down or starting at the brim and working up. It has a seamless look and can be customizable within the size or length.”

Do you make other things besides yarn art? What are your hobbies or other products in your business?

I primarily focus on creating patterns and crochet goods, but I do enjoy dabbling in freeform crochet and embroidery.

Tell me something about you that you want other people to know, or that you wish more people understood?

“I love creating beautiful designs and crochet goods but the most important thing to me is community. I love creating with gorgeous indie-dyed yarns! When we lift each other up, we can make great things!

Will you show us a few of the things you have designed or made?

I’ve made two of these and the lacey pattern is so fun to make!!!

Give a look around Gwen’s shops and come back and tell me what you love most!!!
Gwen is a prolific designer and she makes elegant and elevated designs!!!

But like she said. Community is where it is at! So come for the crochet art, but stay for the kind artist behind it!

Ok, listen. You and I both know that hand dyed yarn is the actual best thing in the world. It is higher quality then anything you can find in a store, it’s art in it’s self and creates unique and individual pieces, it’s softer by a million softness points, and the drape is on point! But since most hand dyed yarn is wool I have had to avoid it (sobs into her coffee). My dear friend Teresa from Fuzzy What Knots immediately thought of me when she added cotton yarns to her shop! She let me play with a skein and it begged me to become THIS PATTERN!

I also went and got more of this cotton because I want to make everything out of it and I figured I should start my collection now!

Ok. now lets talk about the pattern.

Crochet Slouchy Beanie Hat Pattern

I wanted to showcase the colors in this yarn and really let it shine. But I also really love a bit of texture and pizzazz in my patterns. I alternated rows of close stitching that show show little rainbow hearts with cross stitched weaving rows that take the rainbows go up instead of across, and make such a fun design! Plus they are like giant cross stitches! My loves have united at last!

This pattern is a beginner to intermediate level. It does use some more advanced techniques, but I explain them really simply to help clarify so its definitely accessible for anyone looking to learn a bit and grow!

Check out Etsy, Ravelry, or LoveCrafts to get your pattern!

And thank you all for the warm welcome to my new yarn baby!
